Extracting the Essence

What is the opposite of a portrait?

A portrait depicts what is particular to the individual. I'm doing exactly the opposite. To find the essence of form, in nature, in figure. I look for what is universal and recognizable in all.

About the Artist

Eric Peltzer has been making sculpture out of his Southern California studio since 1985.

His works in bronze, stainless steel, and aluminum have been commissioned for private, corporate, public, hospital, and hospitality environments in cities throughout the United States and Japan, Taiwan, Australia, and Hong Kong.

He first won an open competition for a large public sculpture in 1997, has since won numerous public art commissions.

He studied with and worked in the studio with noted kinetic sculptor George Baker at Occidental College beginning in 1981.

He lives with his wife Miya and children Isaac and Elsa at his home and studio near the foothills above Pasadena.
