George Baker -- Tilting Arc

A kinetic wind sculpture for the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art
Utah State University, Logan, Utah





Made of stainless steel with a bronze pedestal, this sculpture was completed in October of 1996. It stands 20 feet high (6.1m.) The entire stainless sculpture revolves starting just above the pedestal, while the wishbone-shaped section rocks on a horizontal axis. There are four moving shapes pivoting from the end of the wishbone arms.










Below is a preliminary computer composite photo of the site, with a photo of the maquette (which is only about 12" high) superimposed into the frame. The use of composite photos gives a fairly realistic idea of what the sculpture will look like in scale. Compare with second photo above.
