1964 ONE-PERSON SHOW, FELIX
LANDAU GALLERY, LOS ANGELES After the early series of rusted metal constructions, Baker moved into a period marked by the use of welded aluminum and bronze. Many of these pieces may appear to have been cast in the traditional fashion, and a few of the smaller bronzes not shown in the catalog were indeed castings; however, most of these sculptures were constructed in a difficult and painstaking process of cutting many small pieces of metal, hammering them into shape welding the edges together, and grinding and polishing the resulting form down into smooth continuous surfaces. |
